Connecticut Shooting

On Friday, Dec. 14 2012, a man walked into Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, a small town in Connecticut and killed 20 students and 6 adults.

The killers mom was his first victim, killing her at their family home. Later carrying on to Sandy Hook elementary where his mother worked. He killed 20 young students between the grades of kindergarten and grade four and 4 employees of the Elementary  as well as his mother and himself.

The shooting is the nations second deadliest school shooting. The first was Virginia Tech massacre in 2007 where 32 people and the gunman died.

This relates to law 12 becuase in Canada we havw more rules on possesions of firearms compared to the U.S. Which in a case like this proves it is a good thing. Also, killing multiple people is a first degree murder.

How I See It....

Reading these articles make me very un-easy and sad. Is this really what our world has come too? This story sticks close to me because I was in New York City at the time, which isn't all too far from the town.

In January 2011 it was discovered that Robert Fawcett, a man who worked with a Whistler-based company, Outdoor Adventures, slaughtered 56 sled dogs after the 2010 Olympics. In 2011 he was looking at a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and 75 000 dollars in fines. He pleaded guilty for the unnecessary pain and suffering to nine of the sled dogs. After these killings were detected in 2011, Outdoor Adventures claimed that the sled dog industry collapsed after the Olympics and the efforts of adoption for the sled dogs were unsuccessful.

The case was finally closed, Thursday November 22, 2012 in a North Vancouver courtroom. Fawcett has a three year probation with no jail time and a 1, 500 dollar fine.

This relates to law 12 because killing animals is still illegal. It is only a lesser offense.

How I See It..

This is a an incredibly sad story. It is not okay to kill these innocent animals just because they don't know what else to do with them.
