Man Proved Guilty of Killing His Pregnant Girlfriend

Eight years ago, Tasha Rosette was stabbed multiple times and was slit in the throat. Her boyfriend, Amjad Khan, was the main suspect eight years ago. Tasha Rosette wad pregnant when killed by her boyfriend. She was stabbed to death outside her basement suite in Surrey, B.C.

In 2006 Amjad Khan and his "alleged accomplice" Naim Mohammed Saghir were both arrested and charged with murder. Two years after they were convicted with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The BC Court of Appeal over turned those charges and requested a new trial.

On Friday, Amjad Khan was found guilty of first degree murder. Though, Naim Mohammed Saghir was found not guilty.

This relates to law 12 in multiple ways. The first way is when they were charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder which is mens rea and actus rea. This means guilty mind and guilty act.  Another way, is the case was brought to B.C. Court of Appeal where the defendant can try to appeal the charges. The last way it connects to law 12 is the murder itself, which is clearly a crime.

How I See It...

This case is sad and also very educational. It is so frightening that someone would actually do that to their loved one, let alone a pregnant girlfriend. This case sums up a great deal of law 12, which sadly this tragic event is educational to us.

17 Year Old Boy Hit By a Train

Friday night around 8:30pm a 17 year old boy was a bit by a train. The 17 year old, Zack Wyatt, was partying by train tracks on Caribou road and Barnett highway in Burnaby. His friend, Shana Harris, was out on the tracks with him when she told him "There's a train coming, lets go." "He dropped some stuff and he went to go pick it up, and while he was picking it up the train wailed him right in his face." He suffered facial injuries, friends state that it looked like he had a hole in his face. RCMP says he never lost consciousness and was taken to Royal Colombian Hospital. Burnaby RCMP officers are starting an investigation on the accident.

This relates to Law 12 because we discussed the laws of minors regarding drug or alcohol abuse. It was said that he was partying by the train tracks.

How I See It..
It is incredibly unsafe to be partying by a train track and this proves that point. I wonder what the investigation will bring up.

Voice Recorder found After a Recent Helicopter Crash

Yesterday at 12:11 am a Helicopter crashed 0.7 nectar miles away from the Moosonee, Ontario. Investigators found the cockpit voice recorder. The helicopter was an ambulance helicopter that crashed on the north side of Moosonee airport. All four people in the helicopter died, two pilots and two paramedics. The Transportation Safety Board said the recorder will be sent to the lab for an analysis.



It is said that the recorder can hear the noise from the helicopter engine, rotors, audio warning and conversations taking place in the cockpit. If the data on the recorder is useable it will help the investigation immensely. The investigator in the crash say the helicopter had a "high energy impact."

This relates to law 12 because their will have to be legal protection due to the fact it is evidence.

How I See It..
This is another sad article. These people were trying to help save a life and they have lost theirs instead.

Canadian Mans Search Called Off

A Canadian hiker went missing in Australia's snowy mountains May 13. The search for Prabhdeep Srawn, was called off recently. The end of the search angered his family. They believe "There's been so many areas that have not been searched, but the authorities have pulled out without doing a thorough investigation" says his cousin Ruby Singh. The family is offering a $15 000 for Prahbdeep's safe return. His family has also considered hiring private companies for a new search but the family is having troubles getting information to re start a new search. The search started on May 20 but stopped because they authorities believed it was unlikely they were going to find them alive.

This relates to Law 12 because the authorities could be liable for for stopping the search.

How I See It..
It is so sad that authorities have stopped searching for someone. I would hate to be in the position of his family right now. 

Nursing Home Abuses

In Peterborough, Ontario at St. Joseph's Fleming long-term care home two investigations have started after four employees suspended because a worried son, Camille Parent, put hidden camera's in his mothers room. Camille Parent had suspicions of ill treatment to his 85 year old mother with dementia. The suspicion started last year because his mother had a black eye due to unknown reasons. Camille Parent's hidden camera showed horrific signs off abuse and neglect. The hidden camera was there for a period of three weeks and displayed scenario's like a staff member shoving a feces covered rag in the 85 year old face. It also showed another staff member blowing his nose in her sheets while making her bed with soiled linen.

The CEO of this facility was shocked when he saw what the hidden video revealed. The four employees in the tape are suspended with pay, while investigations have started.

This situation raises concerns for safety of patients in facilities all over Canada.

This relates to Law 12 because this is a form of battery. Battery is intentional, unauthorized physical contact that the victim considers harmful or offences.

How I See It ....

Finding out that this happens to people makes me sick. I cant believe people would do such horrific things to people who cant care for themselves. It is also unfair that the employees are suspended with pay. 

Giving up a son with autism

Amanda and Philip Telford recently gave up their 19 yrs. old son with autism to the province. They made this incredibly difficult decision because the couple could no longer give him the care he needed. Along with autism their son, Phillip, has tourette's syndrome, diabetes and functions at a level of a two year old. He is also a full grown 19 year old so it is difficult to help him with the basic care with someone who functions at a level of a two year old. Amanda Telford is a social worker, so she did everything in her power to give him the best care but it was still not enough. Phillip was sent to the Ottawa office of Development Services Ontario where the office is responsible for connecting adults with disabilities with support services.

This connects to law 12 because we have learned about child custody in marriage and law.

How I See It...

This is such a sad story. It must be horrible to give your child up but i think the parents did the right thing because they realized they can't give the child the care he needs and deserves.

The suspects of the Boston bombing

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing that killed three people and injured more than 100 people is in critical condition. He has a wound to his throat that is leaving him unable to talk. Tsarnaev, is only 19 years old. This injury has obviously delayed questioning. Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston claims that investigators may never be able to orally investigate Tsarnaev.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev was the FBI's first suspect. He was killed in a wild chase with the police Thursday night. 

This relates to our recent topic of law 12 which is crime and criminal justice. Tsarnaev will be put to justice for his horrendous crime.

How I See It...

I don't understand how such young boys could possibly due such a horrendous act. This will never make sense to me.

Boston Marathon

Last Monday, two bombs went off near the finish line of a Boston marathon. The first bomb exploded in a garbage can on Boylston Street, just off Copley Square in the heart of Boston's city. The second bomb exploded several hundred feet away just 13 seconds after. These powerful bombs killed 3 people, including a child. Leaving around another 100 people or so harmed. These bombs caused sheer craziness as scared runners and spectators scattered for their lives.

This relates to law 12 because we are talking about criminal justice right now. This clearly a crime and the people responsible for this will be put to justice accordingly.

How I see It..

All i can say is this is disgusting.  I pray for all the people and families affected by this.

B.C. Woman Found in a Water Tank

                                            

Elisa Lam body was discovered Tuesday in a water tank at the Cecil Hotel, L.A. Lam, 21 years old, was staying at the Cecil Hotel where she went missing on Jan.23 2013 last seen by an employee of the hotel.


Lam traveled to California alone on Jan. 26 from Vancouver B.C. Police believe there was "foul play" in the death of Lam because where she was found and what great lengths it takes to access the hotels water tank. To get to the tanks, someone would have to go to the top floor then take a staircase with a locked door and emergency alarm preventing roof access. Another ladder would have to be taken to the platform and a person would have to climb the side of the tank.


The body was discovered after many complaints by hotel guest due to low water pressure. The tanks provide water for all of the hotel taps and would have been used by guests for washing and drinking. The water was tested by the department of public health and said to be safe. 


Hotel security cameras showed her getting onto the hotel elevator and popping her head out looking both ways.


This hotel had been the home of a few infamous serial killers at one point.

This relates to law 12 because this a murder. Murder's are charged by the regulations in the criminal code.

How I See It.....

This is a very sad and shocking story. A young girl from around here murdered in a L.A. hotel and stuck into a water tank, crazy! This article reminds me of all the sick people in the world that would do such a thing! If i were a hotel guest of the Cecil and drinking from the water tank Lam was found in i would be beyond horrified!  

Women Charged for Theft & Fraud

Elizabeth Sherwood, a resident of Kelowna, is receiving charges for theft, fraud and uttering forged documents. Sherwood took nearly $23 000 from Okanagan Mission Secondary School fundraising funds.  This account was maintained by parents outside the school for the Okanagan Mission School band. Sherwood was the treasurer of this account. When the other parents saw some unplanned withdrawals and irregular activity last February they contacted the police. When the police investigated this account they found 37 forged cheques within the time period of May 2010 and August 2011. The forged cheques added up to be $22 894.12.
Elizabeth Sherwood will appear in court on May 12. She faces charges of theft over $5000, uttering forged documents and fraud over $5000. 

This relates to Law 12 because theft is a crime and she will have to go to court for her actions.
How I See It....

In my opinion, Sherwood should face these charges. Sherwood must of needed the money badly for her to steal from her own children and friends. $23 000 is a lot of money.

A boy abducted by grandparents in 1994 found

Richard Landers in 1994

In 1994 Richard Wayne Landers Jr. was abducted from his hometown of  Wolcottville, Indiana by his paternal grandparents. Richard and Ruth Landers abducted their grandson because they were "upset over pending court proceeding" involving the custody of five year old Richard Wayne Landers Jr. The now 24 year old boy was found living in Long Prairie, Minnesota due to his social security identification number. Landers social security number was given to the police in early September by his step father, Richard Harter. This information found a man with the same Social Security number and date of birth living in Long Prairie, Minnesota. His driver's license photo resembled Landers, police said. The grandparents were found living in a nearby town with alias names and soon after being discovered they admitted the he was in fact Richard Wayne Landers Jr. Police say it does not look like Landers has suffered physical or mental abuse over the 19 years.

This connects to law 12 because the young boy was kidnapped by his grandparents because they did not yet have custody over the boy. Taking him away without full custody is kidnapping. 

How I See It...

This article definitely takes family feuds to the extreme. I was just happy to read that he did not suffer any physical or mental abuse over the years. I think what the grandparents did was wrong, taking a child away from their mother at such a young age isn't good for anyone. Its fair to assume that the grandparents believed they were saving their grandchild. In some way perhaps this was an act of love. We will never know why the grandparents went to this extreme or what had happened to convince them his mother was unfit to raise him. There are two sides to every child and a lot I'm sure the media doesn't know.
